Built in the early 20th century, this existing residential care building on the Clonskeagh Hospital Campus underwent a major works programme as part of a change of use to a Mental Health Unit, with design led by OBFA. With a brief to deliver a modern healthcare building OBFA designed the refurbishment and additional extensions to maximise the quality of daylight within the building while maintaining the privacy of patients. The building was designed to with a series of courtyards to provide a progression of privacy from external to internal.
This project serves to illustrate OBFA's experience with complex construction projects with additional layers of specialisation relating to operations on an existing campus. In addition it serves to underly our experience and familiarity with the issues which arise when providing accommodation and services for vulnerable people.
This project involved the complete reconstruction 500sqm of a legacy medical facility on an existing live hospital site. A new wing of 300sqm was also added, taking consideration of the existing campus.
This project had multiple ownership and operational stakeholders which extended outside of HSE through to patron bodies, campus operation, nursing and medical staff. OBFA acted as interface and lead design consultant to ensure all parties had input to the design process to meet specific end-user care requirements
