Brady's Court, Tallaght is a 12 unit elderly housing courtyard project. 8 bungalow typologies and 4 apartment units arranged in a courtyard with communal gardens and landscaping. A community room completes the courtyard as a buffer between Brady's Court and the bustling Oldbawn way road. This project employed many excellence in universal design principals to create an environment that can be enjoyed by all regardless of their age, size , disability or ability.
A key project objective was to create a community space within an already established locality. The site is located on a prominent location adjoining the local football green & pitches and mature established housing. In addition a priority of South Dublin County Council was to add much needed single bed housing to the area.
The living areas and kitchens are turned into the courtyard creating a secure external space for the residents to enjoy. OBFA delivered this scheme using a selected material palate of brick and a planted landscaped engaging courtyard space with built finishes, that were not expressing an institutional feel, but of a continuation of the suburban language of the locality.
