This project saw OBFA design and deliver 10 new, semi-detached homes on a greenfield site for Laois County Council, extending the existing Gleann Na Glaise estate in the village of Ballyroan, Co. Laois.
OBFA utilised the long linear site by locating the main entrance to each unit on it’s gable façade. This eliminates the need for a long hallway, taking up valuable floor plan space, thus allowing for more generous living areas within each home. With vehicle parking also located to the side, the units were pulled towards the road, providing smaller front gardens, but larger, more favourable, south facing rear gardens.
The project is highly energy efficient, achieving nZEB compliance. The design includes a high level of insulation and airtightness, air to water heat pumps, positive input ventilation systems, and ample natural daylighting
