Today, an important milestone was reached for the project team working on the Shackleton Museum Project in Athy, Co. Kildare. Yesterday our director Ciaran travelled to Letterfrack to assist in the recording of the final journey of the ships cabin from Quest - the ship where Ernest Shackleton succumbed to a heart attack in January 1922. At 5am this morning we commenced the slow and steady journey south east, stopping briefly in Killkea, Shackleton's birthplace - to pause, recognise and complete a fascinating circle of life.

Antarctica - Norway - Letterfrack - Killkea - Athy - quite the journey.

The day was completed with a successful lift of the cabin into the building, where it is now secured and protected until we complete the project. There was lots of interest from far and wide - accentuated by the recent discovery of the Quest by the The Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

The next principle milestone will be the completion of the extension with the arrival of the glass 'iceberg' - due in Ireland in the coming weeks. More anon.

Sincere thanks to JSD Contractingand Kildare County Council for a well managed, safe and orderly lift, to OBFA Architects Michelle O'Byrne and Robert Holmes and all of the DTM for keeping the project on its own steady course; and to Stephen McGrath Transport (who know a thing or three about moving sensitive and important objects).
