Shackleton's Cabin - Getting ready for the last journey

Its been a very busy few weeks, but OBFA had the opportunity to undertake a really nice project inspection a few days ago. Joining Seamus Dooley of JSD Contracting we travelled to Letterfrack to do a 'logic check' on how we will bring Shackleton's Cabin to its final resting place in Athy- the Shackleton Museum siteĀ over the next few weeks. We met again with Sven Habermann and his excellent team at Conservation Letterfrack and discussed the structure, methodology and sequencing of the move.
Works are progressing at the Museum Development in Athy Heritage Centre - Shackleton Museum with the legacy 1980's interventions now cleaned back and the building approaching readiness to receive the cabin - where it will be encapsulated and protected physically and environmentally while the project team complete the restoration and extension around it. The internal fittings have been carefully removed and will travel with the main structure.
